While selecting a scene to breakdown I came across this chess playing scene and it instantly grabbed my attention.
The two men sitting across each other are dressed in dark and bright colours mimicking the colour of the pieces they are using.
There posture and seating direction is also similar to the two statues on the mantle piece.
The shelves also may lead us to look into background of the character's the male on the right has a computer on his side and the shelf over his shoulder is cluttered with more books maybe implying status or education level. While his opponents shelf is quite bare and his lack of a computer shows a difference of experience or status between the two.
The choice of tile also works as its as if the two characters are playing on a chessboard with the chequered patters.
